The Silent House – review

Despite some jolts, this Uruguayan horror is largely unconvincing, writes Philip French

The Silent House: 'a lot of blood'. Photograph: PR

Supposedly based on a true story and allegedly filmed in a single extended take in real time, this occasionally jolting but largely unconvincing Uruguayan horror flick spends 78 minutes (and a coda) with Laura, a pretty young woman, and her father in a deserted, ill-lit country house that they once lived in. You've heard of the unreliable narrator. This film features an unreliable observer, as well as a lot of blood.
