British actors, including the Bend it Like Beckham star Parminder Nagra, made up half a US showbiz bible's annual "ones to watch" list yesterday.

Another in the Variety line up of 10 is the Spooks actor Matthew Macfadyen.

In past years the list has spotted names such as the Oscar winner Adrien Brody and the British Hollywood star Samantha Morton.

It turns the spotlight on rising stars of TV and cinema, identifying those whose screen presence should lead to big league success.

The other Brits in the list are Sienna Miller, who appeared in the BBC drama series Bedtime and is in a forthcoming remake of the 60s hit movie Alfie.

Romola Garai, the star of I Capture the Castle and a new sequel to Dirty Dancing, is also included, as is Chiwetel Ejiofor, who has appeared in Dirty Pretty Things and will be seen in Love Actually.
