There's a cheeky dollop of pseudo-Hitchcock, too, with an extraordinary, retro-looking rooftop chase finale bolted on at the end. Julia (Carmen Maura), a shrewd estate agent, discovers a terrible smell from the flat above the one she's trying to let out - an old man is dead, and she discovers millions of pesetas hidden in his kitchen from his lottery win.

She plots to take the money, but the entire apartment block consider the cash to be rightfully theirs. De la Iglesia keeps up a frenzy of wacky activity, too absurd to be convincingly scary but maintained with energy and stamina.
