A Man’s Story – review

Ten years of filming reveal surprisingly little of Ozwald Boateng or his work, writes Philip French

A Man's Story leaves us little closer to knowing the real Ozwald Boateng. Photograph: PR

Shot over more than a decade, Varan Boricos's grovelling biography of the celebrated British tailor and designer Ozwald Boateng is a succession of tributes to Boateng by his mentor Giorgio Armani, Prince Charles, Richard Branson, Hollywood figures (Will Smith, Keanu Reeves and Billy Zane among them) and Boateng himself. We learn surprisingly little about his work, his development and what shapes his collections. "What makes Ozwald special?" an assistant is asked. "Ozwald's unique!" this student of tautology helpfully replies.
