Peter Bradshaw: An exasperatingly thin and derivative film that attempts to investigate the erotic and ecstatic dimensions of memory loss

An exasperatingly thin and derivative film that attempts to investigate the erotic and ecstatic dimensions of memory loss.

Eduardo Noriega is Graham, a young guy with a goldfish's mental grip on his surroundings and his own past. After a few minutes, everything is forgotten and he must write everything obsessively down in a notebook. Anna Mougalis is the beautiful young woman attracted to him and electrified by the possibilities of sex for the first time - all the time.

It is more than a little like Christopher Nolan's Memento, which, to be fair, was more than a little like Tom Tykwer's Wintersleepers. But this is a cinema of pure mannerism, pure surface. It is varnished up to a plausible gloss: but with no real emotions or ideas. The sex scenes look as if they belong in some kind of racy coffee-table picture book.
