Bollywood actor and model Gauhar Khan was allegedly slapped by an audience member for wearing a short skirt during the recording of an Indian reality show on 30 November , according to the Hindustan Times.
Mohammed Akil Mallick is accused of assault and criminal intimidation following the incident at the Film City studio in Goregaon, near Mumbai, during recording for the Raw Star music talent show. He reportedly told police officers that because she is Muslim, Khan should not wear revealing clothing or dance in a racy manner.
“There were over 2,500 people present at the venue with 250 bouncers,” a source from the show told the Times. “Yet a 24-year-old guy in the crowd teased Khan and got into an argument with her. While he was being escorted out of the place, he managed to go up on stage and slapped her.”
The source continued: “It was chaos after the security pulled the man away. Gauahar was shocked and was crying a lot. A stunned Gauahar didn’t understand what happened. Though the shooting was stopped, Gauahar took a break of an hour to gather her bearings and then reported back on stage to finish the leftover one-hour shoot.”
Khan, who has appeared in roughly half a dozen films and had a lead role in 2009’s Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, was appearing as a host for Raw Star. In 2013, she won Bigg Boss, the Indian version of Celebrity Big Brother.
Mallick was due to appear before an Indian court on 1 December.
