Emma Stone is set to play the lead in Love May Fail, an adaptation of the novel by Matthew Quick.
Quick is best known for writing Silver Linings Playbook, the film version of which won Jennifer Lawrence the Oscar for best actress.
According to Deadline, the script will be written by Mike White, best known for writing School of Rock, The Good Girl and TV’s Enlightened. The plot follows a woman getting over her marriage after her husband cheats on her. She returns to her hometown to clear the name of her favourite English teacher, whose career came to an end after a scandal.
The film is still in need of a director but will be produced by Matt Tolmach and Elizabeth Cantillon. Tolmach’s credits include The Amazing Spider-Man and the forthcoming Jumanji remake, while Cantillon has worked on Galaxy Quest and Will Smith’s new NFL drama Concussion.
Stone received an Oscar nomination earlier this year for her role in Birdman but has since starred in Irrational Man and Aloha, both of which failed to meet expectations. Her forthcoming films include the musical La La Land opposite Ryan Gosling for Whiplash director Damien Chazelle and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Queen Anne comedy The Favourite.
