A flashy, funky, irreverent riff on the Faustus legend, developed for the screen by Barcelona's experimental theatre group La Fura Dels Baus.

With its choppy editing and bleached-out colours it looks like nothing so much as a feature-length ad for vodka; it has bull-in-a-china-shop touches of awful taste and it's obtuse, to say the least, about the pointed moral lessons proposed by Goethe and Marlowe in their retellings of Faustus's life. But it's never dull, and conjures subversive moments of mordant wit and real dread.
