Plans for a Kurt Cobain biopic are roaring ahead, Courtney Love has revealed, with a selection of "new Brad Pitts" under consideration for the lead role.

Love and her team are apparently considering demo reels submitted by actors who want to play Cobain in a film, with hopes of beginning production "within the next year". "[It] was really tough because these boys are so pretty, so cute," she told the Philippine Daily Inquirer. "I won’t name names because I don’t want to jinx it for anyone but these are 25-year-olds who are blond, gorgeous and the new Brad Pitts ... Some are really good actors, not just pretty faces."

Love has spent years discussing the possibility of a Cobain biopic or even a stage musical. Quantum of Solace director Marc Forster and The Messenger's Oren Moverman have both been attached to the film project. It's not clear whether any director is currently confirmed for the picture, but Love is "leading the charge", she said, with feedback from her daughter, Frances, and Cobain's Nirvana bandmates Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic.

In addition to the proposed biopic, a new documentary about Cobain is allegedly close to completion. Directed by Brett Morgen, who made the Rolling Stones documentary Crossfire Hurricane, it's said to be an unusual film inspired by Lenny, Bob Fosse's 1974 movie about Lenny Bruce. "It's not like a 'behind the music' doc," Love said. "The only people talking in it are [Krist], Kurt's mother and me. It’s vérité, mostly."

Love is also still working on a new album and a memoir, and has an upcoming guest role in the TV series Sons of Anarchy. But despite recent hints, she is now throwing cold water on the prospect of reuniting her 90s band Hole. "I don't want to get on the oldies circuit," she said. "I don’t need to do that for money. I want to put out music that is relevant today."

Love's newest solo single, You Know My Name, was released in May.
