Lady Gaga is set to appear in Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's Sin City 2. The 28-year-old pop eccentric will play the part of Bertha, a waitress, and will star alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character, Johnny.

Posting a message onto her Instagram, Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, confirmed the news of her acting role in the film on Monday, stating, "It's true! I'll be in Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For with my favorite scene partner Joseph Gordon-Levitt I love Rodriguez he really killed this one!"

The film's new trailer - which was premiered at last week's Comic Con in San Diego - also features a glimpse of the star alongside the film's various anti-heroes such as Jessica Alba, Eva Green, Ray Liotta and Bruce Willis and Juno Temple.

Sin City 2, which is out in August, weaves together two of Frank Miller's classic stories with new tales interpreted by Robert Rodriguez and is a story of a town's "most hard boiled citizens" who "cross paths with some of its more notorious inhabitants." It is not yet known the full extent of Lady Gaga's role.

Of course, this isn't the singer's first foray into acting: as well as appearing in The Sopranos aged 15, she has performed in a number of her own epic creations such as Telephone and most recently, GUY and an episode of The Simpsons, which was ranked the worst in the cartoon's history, according to a list based on IMDB ratings.

As well as her acting role, Lady Gaga has also announced more details of her collaborative album with Tony Bennett; an album of jazz standards set for release in autumn. Entitled Cheek To Cheek, fans have already had a taster of The Lady is a Tramp, but can now also hear a cover of Cole Porter's Anything Goes.

“Cheek To Cheek came out of a very organic friendship and relationship that Tony and I have built over the years and it truly was a collaborative effort,” Lady Gaga says of the release. “It was important to Tony that this was a jazz record. I’ve been singing jazz since I was a child and really wanted to show the authentic side of the genre. We made an album of jazz classics, but it has a modern twist.”
