We couldn't resist sharing a couple of boxtroll movie stills with you. Alan Snow has found having a film made of his book Here Be Monsters an altogether strange experience: "seeing the characters and the world of the boxtrolls made solid by other artists is more than odd. It's like having a dream but knowing that there is a parallel universe outside of the dream which is slightly different." Photograph: PR

Fans of the film Coraline, based on Neil Gaiman's book of the same name, may notice some similarities in animation style to The Boxtrolls. There's a reason for that: The Boxtrolls is made by the same people – and they also made Paranorman. Find out more on The Boxtrolls movie website. Photograph: PR
